Merge different data sources
Lookup and Range Functions fetches data from one location to another based on one or many criteria. Supply Chain Professionals work towards a lot of stakeholders and therefor needs to extract and interact with many different data sources in different formats. To be able to perform analysis the data usually needs to be merged or aggregated on different levels.
The many different types of stakeholder data including, but not limited to:
- Suppliers: Purchase order data, Price data, Master data, Logistics data.
- Third party logistics: Transport data, Warehouse data.
- Project management: Planning data, Cost data.
- Finance: Currency data, Treasury data, Cost data.
- Engineering: Master data, Drawing data, Bill of material data.
- Production: Planning data, Demand data, Cost data, Logistics data.
- Sales: Sales data, Forecast data, Customer data.
- Legal: Contract data.
Tip: Merge data in BI or ERP reports
If the BI or ERP allows you to merge database tables into a report before extracting it to Excel, this is usually the preferred solution, especially if extracting particular data is a recurrent activity.
